Treatment of Lower Lumbar Degenerative Disease using the Anterior Surgical Approach

Protos Training is a one day competency-based training focused on a defined pathology and procedure. This course provides the competencies needed to successfully and consistently treat patients with lumbar degenerative disorders using the Anterior Lateral Interbody Fusion (ALIF) technique

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the correct positing steps regarding the ALIF approach
  • Delineate the anatomical landmarks necessary for safely performing the anterior surgical technique
  • Describe the correct indications for the anterior approach surgery
  • Recognize and manage the vascular complications that can occur during ALIF approach
  • Define the safe use of the retractor in order to protect the vessels and soft tissue
  • Argue and critique principles and proper indications of indirect decompression during ALIF approach
